Christian Community Credit Union celebrated its golden anniversary on March 24, 2007 at Pacific Palms Conference Resort in the City of Industry, CA. The 50th Annual Meeting celebration reflected on five decades of growth and expansion and highlighted the major milestones in the Credit Union’s history. John T. Walling, President/CEO of Christian Community Credit Union, honored Charles Hughes Jr., Chairman of the Board, for his 40 years of service to the Credit Union. “His vision, dedication and friendship are just incredible. All of us on the Board and Staff greatly appreciate him for his service over the years,” stated Walling. In addition, Walling also celebrates his 35 years with the Credit Union in June 2007.
Another highlight was honoring two founding Board Members – Earl Riley and Lloyd Wagner - who were presented with a commemorative clock “for their dedication and vision for the founding of what is one of the largest, denominationally-based credit unions in the United States serving both individuals, churches and ministries” stated Board Chairman Charles Hughes, Jr.
Christian Community Credit Union traces its origin back to 1957 when a handful of American Baptist ministers formed the American Baptist Ministers Credit Union in Norwalk, CA. Three years later it became American Baptist Credit Union. In 2001, the Credit Union changed its name to Christian Community Credit Union to reflect the expanding field of membership and the Credit Union’s vision to serve the larger Christian Community. Through the years, the Credit Union’s membership has grown nationwide and internationally to serve churches and ministries as well as Christian schools, colleges, seminaries and retirement homes.
The celebration was capped with inspirational music from the Biola University Women’s Chorus. Choir Director Julie Ramsey was pleasantly surprised when John Walling presented her with a $2,000 donation towards their scholarship fund.

“We are grateful for our rich heritage, our foundation in the cooperative credit union movement and the Biblical values upon which we were founded” stated CEO/President Walling. As for future plans, Walling projects to become a $1 billion credit union by 2011. “Our desire is for Christian Community Credit Union to become a stronger financial partner for our members. We want to continue providing cutting-edge services while putting our members’ money to work in building God’s kingdom,” added Walling.
In 2006, the Credit Union funded over $65 million in loans to help finance churches and ministries. Additionally, over $40 million was in real estate loans helping members realize their dreams of homeownership.
With assets over $440 million, Christian Community Credit Union has grown to over 29,000 members nationwide and in over 100 countries and has served the financial needs of Christian churches, ministries and their members. For more information, call 800.347.CCCU or visit myCCCU.com.
