CCCU’s “Cards that Give to Missions & Ministries” program donated over $50,000 to various Huricane Katrina disaster relief. The funds supported the relief efforts of the American Baptist Churches USA, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG), World Vision, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross. “We wanted to extend our help in a tangible way to support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina during this devastating time in their lives,” said John T. Walling, CCCU President/CEO. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the hurricane victims and their families. We trust that the donation will go a long way in meeting their physical and spiritual needs.” Donated funds will provide for the most basic needs – medicine, shelter, health school kits and baby kits.

In appreciation for CCCU’s donation, ICFG Senior Supervisor Larry Spousta said, “We thank the board and members of CCCU and we extend the hand of partnership in this endeavor to see lives changed in the rebuilding and reestablishing the lives of the hurricane victims.”

“All our members have a part in this disaster donation,” adds Walling. “They can feel good knowing that whenever they use their credit or debit card, they are also actively participating in the credit union movement’s philosophy of “People Helping People.”

Simple ways to improve your cash flow
1. Refinance your auto loan. If you financed somewhere else, you may be paying a higher interest rate than you need to.
2. Transfer your credit card balances. You may be paying more than you need to! You can get those high-rate cards paid off, and consolidate your debt into one easy monthly payment.
3. Ditch the little luxuries. Eliminate cable TV, your gym membership and weekly trips to the mall. For help with setting up a budget, cutting down on finance charges or consolidating debt, please contact CCCU.

Fixed annuity adds stability to your investment plan
A fixed annuity is a classic choice when it comes to adding stability to an investment plan. If you are looking for steady, tax-deferred growth, a fixed annuity could be the right choice. Fixed annuities offer a fixed rate of interest for a specified period, the assurance of a future income stream, and a guarantee provided by the insurance company who underwrites the plan.

Like with any investment, you should carefully consider the investment objectives, risks and charges and expenses of the fixed annuity before investing. There is a surrender charge imposed generally during the first 3-7 years that you own the contract. Withdrawals prior to age 59 ½ may result in a 10% penalty in addition to any ordinary income tax.

Fixed annuities may be a good choice for your investment plan if your goals include one or more of the following:
• Asset accumulation for future retirement income
•Tax deferral to reduce income taxes
• Protection of principal investment
• Assets that may avoid probate
• Potential reduction of taxes on Social Security income
