Spring 2010
Financial Update. Your Money is Safe, Sound and Invested in a God-Honoring Way
The year turned out better than anyone could have hoped for at Christian Community Credit Union. Financially, we out-performed most credit unions and banks in the nation. Asset growth exceeded $47 million or 9.9%, and share deposits grew 18%, representing the greatest single year of growth in the Credit Union’s history. As of 02/28/10 the Net Equity Ratio was 8.96%. That means the Credit Union remains “Well Capitalized.” In addition, the Credit Union paid above-average dividends to the members throughout 2009. |

Retiring board member Ruth Morales stands between John T. Walling, Christian Community Credit Union President/CEO (L) and Rev. Robert J. Neill (R), Board Chairman. Ruth served over 17 years as a board member of the Credit Union. |

After serving over 17 years as a member of Christian Community Credit Union's Board of Directors, Ruth Morales retired in March 2010. “We are grateful and blessed for Ruth's service with the Board through the years. The dedication, wisdom and perspective she brought have been valuable in our growth as a financial institution,”
says John T. Walling, Christian Community Credit Union President/CEO. “Her work as a minister, a minister’s wife, along with her wide scope of involvement in ministry and public life made for a rich contribution to our Board.”
Prior to her service at Christian Community Credit Union, Ruth worked as an aeronautical engineer for 20 years. She also had an extensive career in education and served on a local school board. In 1987, she was ordained as a minister and served on the pastoral team at First Baptist Church of Los Angeles for over 15 years. “It has been a great privilege serving on the board through the years,” says Ruth. “This has been the most rewarding board I’ve worked with. We’re a team and we’re a family.”

The money you deposit into your accounts helps provide affordable financing to churches for building or expanding worship facilities or purchasing property. These loans make it possible for them to better serve their members and communities.
Your deposits at the Credit Union help us fund these Kingdom-building projects:
• Primera Iglesia Bautista del Sur, San Francisco, CA — Equity Credit Line to complete an elevator project
• Chicago Heights Foursquare Church, South Chicago Heights, IL — Refinance
• The Church of God in Oakland, CA — Purchase of an office building for worship services, classrooms and offices
“It was a pleasure working with the Christian Community Credit Union team for our refinancing needs. They made this process comfortable for me to be able to comprehend the various processes and documentation needed to complete the application by our church. I had a great experience with the Credit Union.”
Mary Sanfratello, Senior Administrator, Chicago Heights Foursquare Church, IL
“We are very satisfied and couldn’t be happier! All questions and correspondence were answered in a timely manner, and all individuals involved (both Spanish and English speaking) were courteous and professional. IRAs: What’s New for 2010? |
|
For 2010, some things stay the same—and others don’t! Qualified taxpayers can deposit $5,000 into an IRA for tax years 2009 and 2010, with an additional $1,000 allowed for those over the age of 50. Income limits and other restrictions may affect your ability to contribute.
What’s new? Higher-income taxpayers may now be able to enjoy the many benefits of a Roth IRA, thanks to a new conversion rule. Individuals with modified Adjusted Gross Income of more than $100,000 can now convert a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. Removing the limit on conversions effectively eliminates the income limit on contributions to Roth IRAs, since you can open a Traditional IRA and immediately convert it to a Roth.
You will typically have to pay taxes on the amount you convert, since before-tax funds were deposited. But for 2010 only, your tax liability can be spread out over two years. Since the rules are complex, we recommend consulting your tax advisor.
Why would you want a Roth IRA?
• Qualified withdrawals are tax-free
• Your earnings grow tax-free
• No withdrawals are required
• You may be able to pass on earnings to beneficiaries tax-free
Christian Community Credit Union offers both Roth and Traditional IRAs with competitive rates and no annual fees.
To open an IRA Account, call 800.347.CCCU or visit myCCCU.com/IRA.
